Freddy Colón’s lifelong passion for rhythm and percussion began at just seven years old, performing with local bands throughout Western New York. What started as a childhood love for music quickly evolved into a remarkable career that has spanned decades, stages, and genres. Known for his versatility and mastery of Afro-Caribbean a n d Latin jazz rhythms, Freddy has become one of the regions most respected percussionists and cultural ambassadors.

Throughout his career, Freddy has shared the stage with some of the most iconic names in music, including Aretha Franklin, Tito Puente, Phillip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire, Mike Phillips, and countless others. His extensive performance history includes collaborations with renowned artists across jazz, Latin, R&B, and symphonic music, making him a sought-after musician for live shows, tours, and studio recordings alike.

Freddy’s dedication to education has been just as impactful as his performance career. He served as a percussion instructor at the Eastman School of Music’s Community Education Division, where he inspired and mentored young musicians. In addition, he is highly in demand as a clinician, leading percussion workshops and masterclasses across Upstate New York, where h e introduces students a n d communities t o the rich traditions of Latin percussion.

In addition to performing and teaching, Freddy has established himself as a cultural leader and event producer. He currently manages an online radio program, oversees several local bands, and is heavily involved in organizing productions and events throughout Rochester, Syracuse, and Buffalo. Freddy has collaborated with schools, cultural organizations, community agencies, and government officials to create and lead youth-centered initiatives, bringing music, culture, and education to underserved communities.

A cornerstone of Freddy’s career is his 25-year tenure with the acclaimed Mambo Kings, one of the nation’s leading Latin jazz ensembles. With the Mambo Kings, Freddy has performed alongside more than 75 symphony orchestras across the United States, showcasing the vibrancy and depth of Latin music in prestigious concert halls and festivals. His performances have inspired audiences nationwide, bridging cultural gaps through music and rhythm. With decades of experience a s a performer, educator, and advocate for the arts, Freddy Colón continues to use his talents to preserve cultural traditions, uplift communities, and inspire the next generation of musicians.
