Anthony Townsend was born and raised in the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area, where his musical journey began with a deep love for percussion . At the age of 10, his fascination with percussion took root when he discovered that his family friend Raul Rekow was the conga player for Santana and was inspired by Raul’s distinctive Latin-Rock conga style.

His first ever conga lesson was from Orestes Vilato at his home in Martinez Ca, which ignited a lifelong passion for Latin rhythms. Throughout his formative years, Anthony has immersed himself in the Bay Area music scene, playing with various Latin-Rock, Latin-Jazz, Salsa, and top 40 bands. He’s played with Ray Obiedo, Chris Cain, Derek Rolando and the Latin Pop Revue, Rick Stevens from Tower of Power…the original singer of “You’re Still A Young Man”.  He’s also played on Rick’s “Back On The Streets Vol.1”,  produced by Jeff Tamelier.

Anthony Townsend’s talent and dedication eventually led him to expand his horizons beyond the Bay, relocating to Las Vegas in 2018.  There, he has embraced a diverse array of musical opportunities, performing with bands such as Santa Fe & The Fat City Horns, Puro Vincente Salsa Orchestra, the Earth Wind and Fire tribute band Serpentine Fire, among others. His reputation as a skilled percussionist grew, culminating in a significant opportunity in 2022 when he was invited to play with Latin-Rock legends Malo.

Anthony’s career continues to evolve as he travels across the West Coast, captivating audiences at festivals and theaters with his dynamic performances. As a passionate advocate for quality percussion instruments, he’s always been impressed by Gon Bops exceptional tone and ease of play.
