Patrick Duke Graney

Patrick Duke Graney from Cleveland Ohio, is an expressive and genre-defying percussionist whose work weaves together tradition, innovation, and global influence. With a sound rooted in groove and guided by curiosity, he brings thoughtfulness and energy to every musical setting. Starting at age 10 Patrick was a dancer throughout high school where he attended Cleveland School of The Arts High School. In 2009 after a brief stint in New York City, Patrick ignited a desire to study music after being exposed to the vibrant jazz scene in NYC. This decision led him back to Cleveland where he
met renowned percussionist Jamey Haddad. Under Haddad’s mentorship Patrick developed his musicality, technique and approach.
After two years of private study with Jamey, Patrick decided to pursue his undergrad. He holds a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies from Oberlin Conservatory (Class of 2017) where he continued his studies with Jamey, and began to study drumset, with Billy Hart. Post Oberlin, Patrick received a Master’s degree from Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain in Contemporary Performance and Production. (Class of 2019), where he was honored with the Faculty’s Choice Outstanding Scholar Award. All the while, performing, gigging, and constantly making music.
In 2019 post grad, Graney moved to Dubai where he helped design and start the music unit at Studio Republik under the guidance of Daniele Camarda. In 2020 he relocated back to the USA where he has been based since bouncing around the region and the country, playing a variety of styles, from flamenco, samba, singer songwriter, modern jazz, latin jazz, carnatic, fusion and more! Patrick has performed on stages, toured, or studied in places such as Brazil, India, Europe, and throughout the United States. As a trained jazz drummer and hand percussionist, Patrick stays curious on how to weave together influences while respecting the tradition and striving for mastery. Whether it be Pandeiro, Congas, Cajon, Frame drums, or hybrid set ups, Patrick tries to serve the music for what it’s asking for.
Patrick has worked/shared the stage with world-class artists including Ben Sollee, Dave Eggar, Apoorva Krishna, Priya Darshini, Frank Mccomb, Jamey Haddad, Chris Coles, Weedie Braimah, Leo Blanco, Leo Genovese, Esperanza Spalding, Dan Wilson, Richard Bona, Billy Drewes. He has worked on film scores, albums and other various projects.
He is featured on over 125 recordings and is known for his dynamic approach and versatility across genres. Patrick brings a blend of musicality, technique, and creative flair to every project he’s involved with.
