Born in the city of Ilo (southern Peru), since he was a child, Richard Ascuna already showed his approach and interest in percussion instruments. By the age of 12, he was starting professionally. Despite his young age, he was already requested to play in other cities, always attracting attention for his way of playing, achieving acceptance from experienced musicians.

In 2005, he moved to the city of Arequipa to begin his professional studies at the Luis Duncker Lavalle Conservatory, as well as being part of the percussion rank of the Arequipa Symphony Orchestra. These studies allowed him to travel several times to the city of Lima to continue specializing in the National Conservatory of Music, as well as taking classes with national teachers such as: Alonso Acosta, Juan Chávez, Juan Canevello and internationals such as: Ney Rosauro, Efeaín Toro, Laureano Rigol, among others.

Richard has had the opportunity to work with national and international artists such as: La India, Isidro Infante, Willie González, Tito Nieves, Cano Estremera, Charlie Cardona, Ray Sepúlveda, Huey Dunbar, Hildemaro, DLG, among others.

Currently, he resides in the city of Arequipa, pursuing his career as a session musician and private teacher, also participating in some local and national projects, developing musical productions and master class throughout Peru.
